A Little Planning Goes A Long Way

Feelings of Christmas spirit should have taken over my body and mind by now but have not because of the lack of snow and minimal decorations. Instead, I am thinking of warm weather and gardening.

I should go out and clean the flower beds, so they are ready for May planting as I got really lazy this past fall and gave up on gardening due to the lack of support and help.

I have to get over needing support to do what I want to do. Seize the moment needs to be my mantra instead of using the lack of support and encouragement as an excuse.
It probably did not help that I visited the Seed Savers Exchange pop up store last weekend and looked at all the seeds and garden tools and ornaments. I did buy The Cat in the Hat children's book, "Oh, say, can you seed?" No wonder I am thinking of warm weather, green grass, and seeds.

Forever Flowers

Working in the beds tonight was enjoyable thanks to a beautiful Iowa summer evening. Pick bright red fresh raspberries from the bed Tony, and I weeded last summer. Time to get out there to trim and weed again. Wondering how the raspberries tasted? Tasty full of deep lasting flavor.

I checked out the flower beds and hanging baskets. Very pleased with the results. I compared the sedums that were planted last year with the sedum planted two years ago on my mom's grave, and they look just as good. They all have shown impressive growth. I was excited to see the blooms this fall.

Pictures Are Worth a Thousand Words

These pictures don't do the flowers justice. Last year after moving to Hesper, I took over and prepared three flower beds for planting. With Tony's help, we planted perennials. I was pleased with the results last year, but this year I am very stoked with the results. Not sure I expected them to survive the harsh Iowa winter. The winter was not to rough.

I just finished painting a fiberglass sculpture and now time to get out and pull weeds. The Creeping Charlie is attempting to put all my hard work to shame. The flowers look amazing. Thinking should plant some more even though it is already July. I guess I will on Saturday.
